Finishing the Conquer The Rock 50k

Feeling good about things after finishing the Conquer The Rock 50k!  Due to other non-running related responsibilities,  I was only able to squeeze in about 5-6 runs within the last 2 months leading up to the challenging run.  Knowing it was a challenging course to tackle even with steady training, I was a little concerned at first due to the lack of training and especially since I live in a Florida, which has minimal elevation.  Although it was my slowest finish ever, I was still able to finish the Conquer the Rock 50k before cutoff time!

The course is very challenging and includes 3 loops up/down Pinnacle Mountain, which is in the Blue Ridge Mountains. With a total of over 10,000 feet climbing up and over 10,000 feet coming down through some technical areas of rocks, steep incline and numerous small water crossings, it was definitely one of the most challenging runs I’ve done. I believe the race director said before the start that less than 50% usually finish it so I was glad to cross the finish line in time. Definitely the slowest ultramarathon I’ve done, but was able to pull it off with hardly any training over the past few months. I guess I’ve had a lot of mileage stored in me from all the runs over the years to where I was able to not only complete it, but to do so with hardly any soreness!  Definitely need to get my running and nutrition back in check for the next difficult run!
