Van Build Post #22 – Custom Built Kitchen Cabinet

To save money and get cabinet sizes I needed to fit the things I want in the van, I decided to custom build the kitchen cabinet. It needed it to be sized up based upon what I had to work with in the van space and which appliances I wanted.

The sink side of the kitchen counter has an extendable water hose that I can rotate and extend outside for a quick wash off and water. It also has a butcher block cutting board that fits at the top of the sink. The sink itself is pretty deep for the van and it also has a bottom rack that can be used the dry things out too or for cleaning.

I needed the cabinet to fit the 12v refrigerator, the induction stove, the sink, counter space and storage cabinets/drawers.

The drawers have the slow closing feature in them. The sink cabinet has some magnets to help keep the door closed while driving.

I added more counter space with a fold up counter on the left side of the sink. It can easily be locked up or unlocked and folded down.

I custom built shaker style cabinet doors/drawers to give it a little nicer look.

I used some project type wood to build the kitchen counter and cut off the piece to use for the foldable countertop section. I sanded things and will be staining the wood to match up with my ceiling tongue-and-groove color. Then I’ll seal everything to help protect it.

Everything’s wasn’t built perfect but I can make adjustments as needed on some of the issues if I decide to.

I have just over 5 weeks left until my finishing goal. I just got my solar panels, inverter/charger and other electrical gear in. Planning to have solar power, shore power and alternator power. Will be working on all of that soon, as well as the plumbing side of things.
